Insurance expert and insured's expert

What are the differences between an insurance adjuster and an insurance adjuster? As an insurance adjuster, I obtained my certification in 2008. We are committed to a code of ethics. While the insurance adjusting profession is planning to improve this issue, there is no specific certification to date.

The insurance expert receives a mission order from the company

In practice, the insurance expert is mandated by your company following a disaster. On the other hand, the insurance expert proposes his services following a fire or a miscellaneous disaster. Thus several firms contact you directly.

  • As soon as an insured signs a contract with an Expert of insured, this one becomes the interlocutor of the Insurance Expert. The Expert of the insured makes the link with the Expert of insurance and takes care of constituting the file of complaint and of attending the meetings of operations of expertises.
  • From a deontological point of view, the insurance expert cannot intervene sometimes for a company and sometimes for the insureds of this same company; he cannot treat the file with the same approach nor interest. This is the reason why the 2 professions remain distinct but competences are sought on the side of the insurance experts.
  • Each company has different internal rules regarding the method of compensation or recurring issues such as compliance, fraud, qualification of receipts, etc.

The insurance expert can be himself a specialist (agricultural, financial losses, fire research, theft ...) or generalist. This is how I was able to obtain a certification delivered by the CEA la Compagnie des Experts, our professional union in 2008.

The insurance adjuster may be affiliated to a federation other than the CEA, such as Fedexa. Some insurance adjusters have been trained by the CEA but they are too few in number. In fact, most of the time they are former insurance adjusters who are recruited by some firms.

The insured's expert will be paid by the person who has chosen him

  • The insurance expert knows in advance his tariffs negotiated with the Company whereas the insured expert will be paid according to the amount of the indemnity received. Moreover, the fees are sometimes capped consequently be attentive to the conditions of the mandate that you will sign.
  • A change took place when insurance companies progressively modified their contracts to refuse to cover a part of the fees of the insured's experts, which in most cases is the sole responsibility of the insured.

In conclusion, there is no precise rule. Each claim requires a particular approach of analysis of the insurance contracts and the subscribed agreements. This is why the insurance expert will apply the contract. If there is a gap in the guarantee, nothing will change it.
