FIBAR and TREIMA, two files to identify stolen objects

Following a theft of precious objects, with a strong sentimental value, the insured often ask to do everything possible to have a chance to find them one day. This is why the administration organizes the collection of information to find the owners of the works of art or jewels. However, it is necessary to be able to identify them.

Computerized file of insured and wanted goods (FIBAR)

To begin with, GIE ARGOS is an Economic Interest Grouping of several French insurers. It works for the search and recovery of vehicles and other movable goods declared stolen for compensation.

An interface called FIBAR is used by, among others, the theft experts. This file centralizes the recording of the stolen goods appearing on the deposit of complaint "with a view to their discovery, their identification and their restitution".

For it to be fully effective, we must transmit precise information about the object. For example, in the case of a luxury brand watch, the model reference, its serial number and a photograph are necessary for identification.

Better identify stolen objects with TREIMA

The insurance companies cooperate with the national police.

A partnership agreement signed on June 12, 2012, allows for cooperation between police departments and this grouping of French insurers. According to the Ministry of the Interior's website, the goal is to promote the exchange of information. The national police use the Treima file of the central office for the fight against the traffic of cultural goods (OCBC) .

Prevention

To go further, it is possible to consult a specific documentation for the prevention for the owners and managers of works of art.

In summary, it is therefore advisable to make a preliminary inventory. In fact, it consists of listing all your valuables with several photographs. It will be useful to produce several plans with an evaluation of the expert before the disaster. Indeed, this document will allow the insurance expert to better inform the insurance companies and the police.
